10/2016 GRADUATION OF SKILLS VOCATIONAL SCHOOL IS HERE

    Hello Praying Friend,
Greetings from Freetown, Sierra Leone. The first graduation ceremony of fifteen vulnerable girls,  since the inception of the school three years ago will take place on the 29th October, 2016. These prepared girls, in the area of spiritual transformation, social and practical skills are very much excited to start life of sustainability on their own. Indeed, we have come a very long way by the grace of God to build them up.
My wife and teaching staff are very much busy to make it a colorful occasion. It will also be a time when more vulnerable girls would be motivated to join the school. Your PRAYERS are working!
Please, continue to pray for these graduation and school needs:
1. Sewing machines for the tailoring department: Sewing machines will be given to best students in the department,  to start off life. We are trusting God for five, at a unit cost of $280
2. Catering Department. Cooking materials and other curtillaries are needed–$200
3. Hairdressing Department: Hair kit and other items needed—$250
4. Food for guests and students on the day of graduation–$200.
We deeply appreciate your prayers and possible assistance. You are contributing a lot to instill WORTH, VALUE and DIGNITY in the lives of Sierra Leone-an ladies. Also, fervently lifting you and yours to the throne of grace and love. Keep in touch.
 Shalom!

Transformation Taking Place July 16

IMG_1273
Hello Praying Friend,
Greetings from Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Lord has blessed us with heavy showers of rain. There is a positive statement: “PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT”. This statement has a true bearing and effect on girls in training in the Center for Empowering the Vulnerable Vocational Institute. The adage which says “an idle mind is the devils workshop” has no room in the school.
The months of June and July has been quite busy for all departments, especially, sewing and catering. Students at all levels (1st and 2nd year) have been on practicals, for the purpose of exam and eventual field work. Respective family members and various communities where they are coming from have been deeply impressed with their productions. THANKS to the hard working and dedicated staff who are instilling DIGNITY, VALUE and WORTH in these Sierra Leone-an girls. The girls in training have a very bright future,
One of them remarked in joy “I never knew I had a strong potential in me. My production as an effective caterer has taken away inferiority from me. I am getting sustainable and can stand on my own” Each student in training has a positive testimony to give (both spiritual and skills transformation).
The entire practical aspect is quite an expensive one. This is largely due to the fact that the economy is deteriorating every day, with adverse inflation. This has an adverse effect on escalating prizes in the market on all commodities, especially food. However, ,the good Lord keeps providing MIRACULOUSLY for the girls and the school administration.
The school is presently on a short break and would resume in early September. Meanwhile, we would continue to solicit your prayers and concern for the following:
1. Scholarship provision for the vulnerable girls in training. Many more want to enroll if they have scholarship provision.
 2. Pray for a continued spirit of courage and resilience on the ten dedicated staff,
3, That the Holy Spirit would continue to quicken and transform the lives of the girls in training.
  4. Pray for timely funding to construct a permanent school building on the available school land.
THANKS once more for taking time to read this update. Your PRAYERS and PARTNERSHIP cannot be overemphasized. You may have some further questions for clarifications, please feel free to ask them.
Sierra Leone is in dire need of spiritual and moral transformation. We love and appreciate you. Keep us posted on what God is doing in your life, business, family or ministry.PRAYING FOR YOU AND YOURS!
Please go to the Photos page to see the updated pictures uploaded THIS July 2016!
 Shalom!

Summer 2016 Update

Praying Friend,

Precious greetings from Freetown, Sierra Leone. God has called believers to be His HANDS and FEET on earth. This is what the Vocational school for the vulnerable is demonstrating. The bible and it’s teachings continue to have a strong root in all activities in the school, and at the same time has a very strong practical out let in the lives of the students. Many girls are experiencing spiritual transformation everyday, with a social implication on their lives.
CATERING DEPARTMENT:  Even though this department is hard to run and operate because of the many demands, yet, it continues to thrive in the school. It is gradually capturing the attention of the outside community because of the quality food it provides. Invitation to cater for some important organizations is now at the door of the school.
WEDDING: The department recently catered for a wedding ceremony organized in favor of one of the longstanding and dedicated staff member. The wedding cake was superb. The department also produced flower sticks for the page boys and flower bags for the page girls. A clear public demonstration of what the school can do practically. Girls in training are becoming experts in their areas of interest. At the end of their studies they would gain employment or become self employed; leading to SELF SUSTAINABILITY.
PRAYER POINTS: Your fervent PRAYERS and concern continues to be paramount in the existence of the school. THANK YOU!
 1. Pray for the construction of a permanent school building. There is an acute need for it, as the school is growing in number. The land is available.
 2. That the Lord would provide scholarship for vulnerable girls in training.
 3. That the Holy Spirit would continue to do the work of spiritual transformation in the lives of all students in training.  Many are coming from Muslim background.
 4. That the Lord would continue to endow wisdom, patience, courage and spirit of resilience on the Proprietress (Mrs Adama Viola Fornah) and staff.
THANKS for taking your precious time to read this update. We would deeply appreciate your concern and possible partnership in bringing about HOPE, DIGNITY, WORTH and VALUE to many African girls. We always value your concern and love.
Please take time to view PICTURES Uploaded in the Picture Page.  Keep in touch and God bless you all!
Yours for the Sierra Leone-an Harvest,
 Warren and Adama Viola Fornah.

March 2016 SLVI Update

Hello Praying Friend,
Greetings from Freetown, Sierra Leone (West Africa). This is a trust worthy saying “If you give a man a fish to eat, he eats once, but if you teach a man to fish, you have prepared him/her for the future”This is exactly the overall dream and goal of Center For Training the Vulnerable Skills Training Center. Many lives of young girls are currently transformed SPIRITUALLY, SOCIALLY and MORALLY. The everyday challenge to get this dream to reality is enormous on my wife and I.
This March update presents some impressive testimonies from transformed lives:
ISATU: Isatu hails from a traditional Muslim background. She is married to an ardent Muslim, and has one child. Life was very unbearable for her many years before her training in the center. She was badly disappointed one day by her grandfather, who happened to be a trained tailor for many years. Her grandfather promised to sew a beautiful dress for her,  for a pending occasion, but disappointed  her at the end. With this frustration and pain in her, she was determined that one day she would also be a seamstress. She enrolled into the school two ago years and focused on tailoring. She did so well and now awaiting graduation. Her Muslim husband became so much impressed with her performance and he decided to buy her a sewing machine. She is now using the machine to generate some income for her family. She is also a great assert of blessing to many in the community. Her life has also been touched by the christian teachings in the school and practical love she experienced during her training. Her family is also experiencing this spiritual blessing.
SIA DABUDAH:Sia hails from the Southern region.  Her aunt brought her to the city some years back, in a bid to gain sustainability and survival. But along the way her Aunt drove her out of the house. Life became very unbearable for her, leading her to have two children off the way. In this negative plight a friend of hers invited her to the Skills training school. She enrolled into the Hairdressing department. She went through many challenges. She received some assistance from the school during her two years practical studies. Her hard work has seen her through. She is presently doing the hair of many girls in her community, and by so doing she receives income to to take care of her kids. She is becoming self-sustainable.
 PRAYER HIGHLIGHTS!
 1. Present enrollment in the school continues to increase. Please, pray for funding to build a permanent school. Present facility is getting smaller for the number of students. Also, annual rent for school building expires in April. This is a great concern to my wife and I. The Lord has provided the land for construction for a four classroom structure. Pray for urgent funding.
2. That the Lord would open up doors for scholarship provision for the vulnerable girls in training. The training is valuable, but has many practical and other demands. Most of the girls find it very difficult to raise the needed funds to see them through.
3. Pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to usher in spiritual transformation in the lives of the girls in training. Many are coming from Muslim background. Students in training are about fifty.
4. Pray that the Lord would provide the domestic needs of the girls. Some are single parents, some orphans and some living with no hope.
5. Pray for a continued spirit of resilience and dedication in the hearts of the ten teaching staff, including my wife the Proprietress, Mrs Viola Adama Fornah. She carries so much on her plate.  As I endeavor to DISCIPLE her, she also counsels and disciple her staff and students.
Your PRAYERS and support and love means so much to us. We very much value your PARTNERSHIP. Please, join us in giving HOPE, VALUE and WORTH to these many African sisters in the Lord. Praying fervently for you and yours! You are SPECIAL to us!  Keep in touch.
Please, find attached below pictures of Isatu. Please, keep in touch and let us know what is happening on your side.  I would be so grateful to know whether the pictures came out fine. You may have some further questions or advise for us.
 Till He comes!
Yours for the Sierra Leone-an Harvest,
Rev Warren and Adama Viola Fornah.

SLVI February 2016 Update

Feb 2016
Feb 2016
Hello Praying Friend,
Greetings from Freetown, Sierra Leone (West Africa). The month of February has been an exciting one for all girls in training at the Skills Vocational school. All departments (Tailoring, Hairdressing, Catering, Adult Literacy,  Arts and Crafts) embraced the girls in an intensive learning mood. Spiritual, social and moral TRANSFORMATION continues to have an immense impact on all of them. The saying goes “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop”. This statement is fastly fading out in the lives of the girls,  who mostly come from unfortunate backgrounds of low moral standards. They are all becoming women and girls of SUBSTANCE, DIGNITY, VALUE and WORTH (Virtues women are missing in Africa). THANK God for the industrious work of my wife and Proprietress, Mr Viola Adama Fornah. She carries a strong PASSION for Sierra Leone-an girls.
The climax of the month brings happiness and joy to all girls in training and teachers. Each received a gift of shoe box (including assorted things such as pens, toys, shoes, books, pencils and other items). Most of the girls are single parents. This gift is coming at a time when most are finding it very hard to cater for their children in school.  Each (including teachers) also received BIBLES specifically designed for children at all levels. It has pictures with stories on the entire bible.  These bibles are serving as a means of EVANGELISM and is currently ushering in spiritual transformation in the lives of the girls and their homes. Praise God!
 PRAYER HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Pray for an increase spiritual growth and love for God in all of the girls. God is doing something new.
2. That the Lord would provide the needed funds to build a permanent school for the girls. Present rent expires in April. A much more bigger accommodation and space is needed. The Land is already available.
3. Pray that the Lord would provide scholarship to help all of the girls in training. It is quite difficult for many of them to get all needed materials.
4. That the Lord would provide funding to get additional equipment, such as sewing machines, catering equipment, etc.
THANKS so much for taking time to read this update. Your prayers and partnership are very VITAL. Please, feel free to contact us on any further issue of concern and interest.
New pictures have been added to the Photo’s page that show girls and teachers in a happy mood, while receiving gifts.  Make sure to visit the page and see our smiling students. Keep in touch!
Fervently lifting you and yours to the THRONE of grace!
Yours for the Sierra Leone-an Harvest,
Rev Warren and Adama Viola Fornah

End of January 2016 School Update

Hello Praying Friend!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Great to report that Skills Vocational School is in full operation again after the short Christmas break. The month of January has been a hectic and demanding period for the students. Second year students in the catering department tighten their belts as they faced practical exams. They catered and produced variety of food stuffs that attract restaurant in the near future.  Energetic and loving teachers helped taught them how to make various dishes; January was the PRACTICAL session. Praise God! they all PASSED with good grades.
January is quite a difficult month to cope with economically, after much have been spent during the Christmas break. It was a tough exercise for all of the second year students to get food stuffs from the market and prepare lovely dishes. A great number wanted to give up. However, the good Lord provided and my wife and I assisted all of them to sale through. They all joyfully remarked “We are deeply grateful because we better prepared to face the future, and we are ready and equipped. We are now getting to sustainability”.
Catering Department, just like the other departments is quite a difficult one to sustain. Prizes on food stuffs in the market are never stable; especially in a devastating economy that we are faced with. However, the FUTURE holds so bright for these lovely vulnerable girls. We deeply appreciate your love, prayers and support.
(P.S. New pictures from this month are posted in the Pictures page. Proof our ladies are working hard!)
 PRAYER REQUEST:
 1. The need to get more equipment from the market, such as sewing machines, hairdressing kits, catering utensils etc. Students are in desperate need of these items.
 2. Need for scholarship empowerment. Pray for more open doors to assist the girls.
 3. School Building: A permanent school building is needed. God has provided the land, and we are trusting Him to provide funding to get four class rooms on it. This would prevent us from paying escalating house rent at the end of April.
THANKS so much for taking time to read this update! Your prayers keep us going! Praying for an open door of partnership and support!
Find attached pictures below! More update coming on Hairdressing, Tailoring and Arts and Craft. Would be so grateful to hear from you!
 Till He comes!

Jan. 2016 Prayer Requests and Update

Greetings once more from Freetown, Sierra Leone (West Africa). Trusting all is well with you and yours. In 1 Thessalonians 5; 17, the bible encourages us to pray without ceasing. Be assured that your prayers mean so much to us; especially as we face so many challenges in the continent.  I would be so grateful if you could lift to the throne of grace the following prayer needs.
 1. I have been invited to join 16 other Africa denominational leaders to an African Strategic Discipleship conference in Addis Abba, Ethiopia. It commences on the 6th–15th February, 2016. It is a clear fact that the church in Africa is growing so fast, yet not deeply ROOTED. I would be representing the Wesleyan Church and the nation of Sierra Leone. Please, pray for God’s leading and meaningful time, as we interact and share common burdens. Pray also for a true spirit of DISCIPLE MAKING in the African Church.
 2. VOCATIONAL SCHOOL BUILDING: The school is in serious need of a permanent building of it’s own. Annual rent expires in April, 2016. The expectation is that the Land Lord of the building would increase the prize, and ti would be difficult for us to pay.  The present building is getting smaller for the student population. Learning condition is not too favorable. Furthermore, the government is expecting to give full recognition when the school have a permanent building. Please, pray for this timely need. Pray for that the good Lord would provid funding to have FOUR classrooms for the various departments (hairdressing, tailoring, catering and arts and crafts), toilet and office space. God has already blessed us with a beautiful piece of land for school construction.
3. PASTORS WIFE RETREAT: The Wesleyan Church of Sierra Leone would be observing an annual Pastors wife retreat on the 17th-21st February, 2016. Some two hundred Pastors wife would be coming together for reunion, prayers and discussion time. Sad to say that many homes of Pastors are falling apart in the nation. It is a serious concern.  This is a timely meeting. Please, PRAY especially for my wife, Mrs Adama Viola Fornah, who serves as President for Women’s Department in the Wesleyan Church of Sierra Leone. PRAY for protection on the road as she moves all over to plan for this great meeting. Pray also for a new wave of revival, zeal, motivation and encouragement in the homes of Pastors. PRAY for God’s financial provision for all of the wives who need to travel to the Northern region of Kamakwie.
THANKS so much for your prayers and concern. If you need any further clarification, please feel free to contact me. We are also fully LIFTING YOU to the throne of grace and Love. Keep in touch.
Please, find attached of girls in training and rented school building!
Yours for the Sierra Leonean Harvest,

Hello Praying Friend,
Greetings from Freetown, Sierra Leone; and especially from the staff and students of the CENTER FOR TRAINING THE VULNERABLE VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE. Indeed, Christ is the reason for the season for all, even for girls and teachers in the school. The school year is ending on a good note. November Edition Update 2015

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Hello Praying Friend,

KNOWLEDGE IS GAINED BY LEARNING; TRUST BY DOUBT; SKILL BY PRACTICE; AND LOVE BY LOVE (BY THOMAS S SZASZ)
The month of October was busy with training activities like any other month. One of the outstanding aspect of the month was a meaningful time of meeting I had with teachers in the school. The meeting mainly served as a means of encouragement and motivation. A time of reflection and evaluation on the progress of the school was done.  We all agreed on plans and activities to further develop the school. God’s presence was heavily felt at the end of the meeting, as teachers, Proprietress,  and myself spent time praying for the school, and especially the vulnerable girls in training.
INTERNSHIP: Great to report that eleven girls on three months practical internship (catering and hairdressing) have successfully completed. Because of good performance they have been spotted by respective authorities as potential employees in the near future. They are getting ready to join other students as they complete their two years training. First graduation ceremony would be February 2016.
ARTS AND CRAFTS: A department that is developing and attractive, especially with their production. Students, under the direction of a good teacher produce all kinds of house decorations. Table mats decorations and other designs are well laid out. In the near future, items would be sold to different markets in town. It would also serve as a means of sustainability for all girls. The market is looking for something good and attractive.
CATERING DEPARTMENT: Because of the quality and outstanding performance of this department, their service to the community of high demand. The department now caters food for churches, colleges and private individuals. Girls in training are really “worth the salt”
 PRAYER REQUEST
 1. Pray for God’s financial provision to keep the school going. The needs are many and timely.
 2. For scholarship provision. Girls in training desperately need one, as most are vulnerable and cannot just cope with the many demands.
 3. That the Lord would provide funding to build a permanent school. The land is already available. Present house the school is using is on rent. Rent expires in April, 2016. Present house is also getting smaller for the growing population of students.
4. Pray also for the forth coming Christmas celebration. Teachers and students would need food, clothing and other items as Christmas gift. Pray for necessary funding to make this a reality.
THANKS so much for your continuous prayer and concern over the affairs of the school. Be assured that your sincere prayer means so much to us. Your PARTNERSHIP in ministry we would deeply cherish. Your support would help tremendously to turn around the tide in Sierra Leone.  Remember “Iron Sharpens Iron”. Please, feel free to advise in whatever way you see helpful. You are also in our fervent PRAYERS. We love you!
Please, find attached pictures below. We would be so grateful if you could acknowledge receipt of this update. Let us know whether the attached pictures came out fine. Please, feel free to further have a view on the website of the school, even though it is still under construction:  www. SLVI.org. Keep in touch!
Yours for the Sierra Leone-an Harvest,
 Warren and Adama Viola Fornah.
